I joined the Rosehill Farm staff in November, 2010 and have an Associates of Applied Science in Horticulture. My grandfather was a farm foreman for Dole in the San Joaquin Valley area of California. He oversaw the planting of a number of Orange, Lemon, and Avacodo groves as well as carrot, lettuce, celery and onion crops. He also worked for Jackson Perkins Roses in Wasco, California as a grafter for many years. I have several other family members that are in the landscape and farming industry as well. I guess it’s in the blood! Before going in to Horticulture, I used my interest in flowers a bit differently. I worked for 25 years as a floral designer and event planner for my own business.
I have always had a strong need to be surrounded by flowers and to grow them. I grew many of the flowers I used in my business. When I felt the need for a change from floral design, Horticulture seemed the most natural choice for me. The perishable nature of the floral business as well as the seasonal demands, along with all the detailed planning for large events has really helped to prepare me for what I am doing now for Rosehill. As one of the growers here at the Farm, I put those skills to work everyday.
What I love most about working at the Rosehill Gardens Farm being a part of a quality team. We produce the best product available, from our incredible geraniums (customers think they look like hydrangeas) to our full to capacity fall mums, Rosehill’s plants are enhancing the beauty of homes and properties around the entire metro area. I love seeing the greenhouses bursting with incredible colors, textures and forms. I even enjoy the creative problem solving which is a large part of my daily routine. This is where I can thrive just like the things I am growing!
When I am not at work I love spending time with my family, which consists of my husband, 4 children and 2 dogs. This time of year we are usually gardening, camping or hiking a nature trail. We all love music, so often we can be found with a variety of instruments playing music and singing together. Movies are a family favorite and we can often be found gathered in the basement for a movie marathon and a good popcorn fight!
