April Green Ideas

For Your Lawn

  • Fertilize lawn with Dyna Green Long Lasting or for organics, Bradfield Luscious Lawn and Garden.
  • Apply Dyna Green Crabgrass Control with Dimension to control and prevent crabgrass or Espoma Corn Gluten for an organic pre-emergent.
  • Any re-seeded areas can be treated with Dyna Green Crabgrass Control after you have mowed once.
  • Any re-seeded areas should be treated with Nature’s Creation for improved root development.
  • For grub problems, apply your first application of Milky Spore .

For Your Vegetable Garden

  • Plant peppers, tomatoes, and other warm-weather crops after all danger of frost has passed.
  • Prepare soil with Bradfield Tasty Tomato and Veggie or Espoma Plant-Tone
  • Top-dress beds with Father Dom’s Duck Doo or Back to Nature.

For Your Flower Beds

  • Prune hybrid tea and floribunda roses.  Top dress all roses with Father Dom’s Duck Doo and feed with Espoma Rose-Tone
  • Feed tulip beds with Bone Meal or Bulb food.
  • Broadcast fertilize with Bradfield All Purpose plant food.
  • Plant hardy annual and perennial flowering plants, such as pansies and ranunculus. Tender annuals can be planted when danger of frost has passed.  Use MYKE with all annuals and perennials for better root development.

For Your Trees and Shrubs

  • Fertilize trees and shrubs with Espoma Plant-tone. Remember to feed acid-loving plants, such as broadleaf evergreens with Espoma Holly-tone.  You can also deep feed both deciduous and evergreens with the ROSS root feeder system.
  • Apply dormant oil spray to trees and shrubs if you have not done so already. Do not apply if plants are not dormant or if freezing temperatures are expected.
  • Begin considering replacements for any dead or winter-damaged trees or shrubs.  Be sure to replant using MYKE.
